What are warts?

Warts are benign skin lesions typically caused by a virus. They form a characteristic cauliflower-like appearance and are often found on the extremities such as hands, fingers, or legs.

How are warts treated?

There are two common methods of treating warts, most of which are destructive in nature. At Starlight Health we use a method called Cryotherapy which involves using an extremely cold liquid nitrogen solution to freeze and destroy warts. Ordinarily, these warts are destroyed on the first treatment. They will typically blister and then fall off on their own within a few weeks.

In some cases, warts can take 2 or even 3 treatments to be fully destroyed. Rarely, resistant warts may require evaluation by a dermatologist

What about Plantar Warts?

Plantar warts are subtypes that grow on the bottom of the foot. They are no different than regular warts biologically except for their location. The problem with plantar warts is the weight of the body causes plantar warts to grow inwards rather than outwards as a normal wart. This inward growth means it is common for plantar warts to be resistant to treatments and can take many treatments to be managed appropriately
